SPORTS MEDICINE
Curriculum
Intro to Sports Medicine
Fellow will work with core faculty attaining competency in skills necessary for the clinic practice of Sports Medicine as well as appropriate diagnostic testing and correct interpretation for patient care
Orthopedics
Fellow will have five months of Orthopedic rotations at several local orthopedic offices. Includes specialized rotations in Hand, Foot & Ankle, and Spine. Fellow will observe/assist in the operating room on cases relevant to Sports Medicine
Radiology
Fellow will work with radiology attendings interested in MSK radiology, observe MRI and Bone Scan, and attend and participate in journal club, grand rounds, and x-ray rounds as scheduled per the radiology faculty
Cardiology
Fellow will attain knowledge and skills relevant to the clinical evaluation and management of the most common Cardiology problems as they relate to the Sports Medicine patient encountered in the office setting
Physical Therapy, DME, and PMR
Fellow will observe and participate in all aspects of exercise physiology and nutrition with the staff physiologist and dietician. Fellow will observe patients as they progress through physical therapy for various sports medicine conditions.
Event Coverage
Fellow will participate in on site sports coverage including high school sports at local high schools, sporting events at Madonna University, mass participation events such as the Detroit Marathon and Island Lake Triathlon, and training room coverage
Scholarly Activity
Fellow will participate in various scholarly Sports Medicine meetings including grand rounds, journal club, and workshops for the Providence Family Medicine residents. Fellow will also initiate and/or complete an original Sports Medicine research project and/or scholarly activity to be presented at a national Sports Medicine conference
